Mary Thornton Dodson, 92, of Wilkes-Barre died Sunday at her home.
Born May 3, 1923 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Frank H. and Winifred Harrity Thornton.
A 1941 graduate of Meyers High School, Mary attended Wilkes-Barre Business College.
Mary retired after working for many years for the United Retail Grocer's Association and previously worked for A. Rifkin Company.
Mary was a member of the Parish of Saint Robert Bellarmine at the Church of Saint Aloysius and its societies. She formerly volunteered her time at Mercy Hospital and enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family.
Her husband of forty-one years, Alfred S. Dodson died in 1990. An infant son, Mark, sister, Margaret Pascoe and brothers, William and Lawrence Thornton also preceded her in death.
Mary will be greatly missed by her daughter, Claire Dodson of Wilkes-Barre; son, Alfred M. Dodson of Vestal, New York; grandson, Eric Dodson of Wilkes-Barre; sister, Frances White of Exeter; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Mary’s family is grateful for the wonderful care and support she received from the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
Celebration of Mary’s Life will begin Thursday with visitation from 4 to 7 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue there Friday with gathering at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Aloysius. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery.
