Sr. Mary Joseph Brady Bielecki O.Carm.

May 11, 1931 — December 16, 2014

Sister Mary Joseph, born Mary Brady on May 11, 1931, peacefully passed to her eternal reward Tuesday evening at Little Flower Manor. She was the daughter of Edward and Helen Flynn Brady.

She attended St. Mary’s High School and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. After working at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City for several years, she returned to Wilkes-Barre, worked at Mercy Hospital, and married the late Leon Bielecki . Together they had three sons, twins, Leon and Edward, and Paul.

After her husband passed away and her sons finished school, she entered the Carmelite Sisters of the Aged and Infirm. She became familiar with the Sisters and their mission while a nurse at Little Flower Manor. After profession of her vows at the Motherhouse in Germantown, NY, she served in long term care facilities in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Albany, NY, Fall River MA, and West Palm Beach, FL. After residing briefly at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham, MA, she came back as a resident to Little Flower Manor.

She was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Peggy, and an infant son, Thomas.

She is survived by her sons, Leon, Edward (Maria) and Paul (Nicole); grandchildren: Noel, Brady, Matthew and Abigail; brothers, Edward W. Brady and Gene Brady, sister, Patricia Brady Desciak , several nieces and nephews and the Carmelite Sisters of the Aged and Infirm.

The family would like to thank the Sisters and staff at Little Flower Manor, and especially Debbie Shutlock, for the exemplary care given to Sister Mary Joseph.

There will be a viewing 2-7 PM with an evening prayer service at 7 PM Friday and the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:30 AM, both in the Chapel at Little Flower Manor, 200 South Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.
