Mary Murphy

April 20, 1920 — January 20, 2011

Mary Andrejko Murphy, 90, of Hanover Township passed away on January 20, 2011 at Little Flower Manor where she was a resident for the past six years.

Mary was born on April 20, 1920 to the late Stephen and Mary Ann Buhalla Andrejko of Hanover Township. She graduated from Hanover Memorial High School with the Class of 1939.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard E., with whom she owned and operated Murphy’s Seafood for over thirty years, as well as her two sons, Richard and Michael, whom she loved and missed dearly. Mary will also join her brothers, Stephen, Joseph, John, Emery, Peter and George, and sister, Elizabeth, and nieces, nephews and cousins in heaven.

Mary will be remembered as an accomplished businesswoman, an active volunteer, and an avid traveler with an adventurous spirit. She had a tremendous sense of humor, a smile that would brighten the day, and a heart of gold that brought warmth to those around her. She was a caring, generous, kind, and compassionate woman.

Prior to operating Murphy’s Seafood, Mary and her husband, Richard, owned and operated a seafood restaurant in Wildwood, New Jersey. Upon returning to the area Mary became an active member of Saint Aloysius Parish and spent many years volunteering in the school cafeteria, church bazaar, and countless hours giving back to the Lord. Mary was also an active member in her community, participating in various civic groups. Her free time was enjoyed fishing and traveling with her husband.

Mary will be remembered as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that showed unconditional love and support. She was the biggest fan of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, devoting countless hours to cheering them on at their many school activities and sporting events; she made sure her voice was always heard.

Surviving are her children, Mary Elizabeth and her husband Leonard Budinas of Hanover Township, Alma H. and her husband Peter Makuch of Pottstown, and John S. and his wife Jean Murphy of Warrior Run. She was the proud grandmother of Alma, Therese, Catherine, Margaret, Peter, Richard, Benjamin, Sean and Erin; and great-grandmother of Nicollette, Zakkary, Bianca and Louis Michael.

Mary was blessed with her caregiver and companion for many years, Rita Rovinski, and the nurses, aides and staff of Little Flower Manor, to all of whom her family is tremendously grateful for the loving care and compassion they provided.

Monsignor Donald A. McAndrews will celebrate Mary’s life in a Funeral Mass on Saturday at 2 PM in the Chapel at Little Flower Manor, 200 South Meade Street in Wilkes-Barre. Entombment will be in Saint Mary’s Mausoleum in Hanover Township.

Visitation will be held in the Chapel on Saturday from 12:30 to 2 PM.

Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to Saint Aloysius Building Fund, or Little Flower Manor, two very important parts of Mary’s life.
