Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

Mary E. Sharksnas, 85, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away at her home on May 15, 2024.

Mary was the daughter of Arthur (Chuck) and Arline Cooney Daigeaun of Wilkes-Barre.

Mary graduated from G.A.R. Memorial High School, Class of 1956. She was a member of the Church of Saint Patrick and Parish of Saint Andrew throughout her lifetime.

Mary married William R. Sharksnas on August 22, 1959, and they were married for forty-two years before his passing in June 2002.

In her earlier years, she was very involved with her children and their activities—when they were Boy Scouts, she was a Den Mother. All the neighborhood kids were welcome at her house. The Holidays were her specialty—she had the most memorable Easter Egg Hunts and the best Christmas stockings ever. The Halloween costumes she created, worn by her sons and grandchildren, won several awards.

Mary worked for Kenneth Manufacturing, Diamond Vending, Lord & Taylor, and Kmart, to name a few. She enjoyed her Atlantic City casino trips, visiting the Mohegan Sun Casino, and one memorable trip to Las Vegas.

Mary's brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Elaine Daigeaun; cousin-siblings Joseph and Mary Ellen O'Brien; and nephew, Michael Daigeaun, preceded her in death.

Her sons William and his wife Margaret and Shawngrandchildren Christina (Thomas) Polomchak, Adrienne (Nicholas) Drago, Alexander (Melisa) Sharksnas, and Sam Sharksnasgreat-grandchildren Benjamin and Nadia Polomchak, Dominick, Anthony and Nico Dragocousin-sibling James O'Brienseveral nieces and nephewsother family and friends will miss her very much.

Mary's family will celebrate her life privately.
