Mary McElwee Williams, 96, of Sugar Notch passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017.
Born January 14, 1921 in Sugar Notch she was the daughter of the late Owen and Anna O’Donnell McElwee.
Mary earned her BA from Marywood University. Prior to marriage, she worked for the FBI in Philadelphia and briefly for the Social Security Administration. After raising her family, Mary returned to Marywood to earn additional credits and certification in elementary education. She enjoyed many years teaching kindergarteners in the Hanover Area School District before retiring.
Her husband, Charles A. Williams, Jr., died May 7, 2015. Brothers, Daniel, Joseph and John McElwee also preceded her in death.
Mary will be greatly missed by her daughter, Ann Williams of Swoyersville; son, Charles G. Williams of Warminster; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Mary’s family is grateful for everyone who made it possible for them to care for her through the last several years, especially Helen Scintilla, the Szafran and Calabro families, the staff at the VA Medical Center Pharmacy, and the Pennsbury School District.
Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 with visitation from 9 to 11:30 AM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Funeral Mass at noon in the Church of the Holy Family in Sugar Notch. Interment will be in Saint Charles Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parish of the Holy Family.
