Mary Ellen McDade, 86, of Conwell Street in Wilkes-Barre died Monday at Heritage House.
Born July 25, 1924 in Carnlough, County Antrim, Ireland she was a daughter of the late John and Annie Mitchell Crawley, and emigrated to the United States with her family in 1928.
Mary Ellen was a graduate of Saint Boniface School and G.A.R. Memorial High School in Wilkes-Barre.
A Navy veteran of World War II, she served in Naval Hospitals in Bethesda, Maryland and New Orleans, Louisiana.
Mary Ellen was a member of the Parish of Saint Therese and American Legion Post 673 in Ashley. She was an active volunteer for the Juvenile Diabetes Organization of NEPA.
Mary Ellen enjoyed attending her grandsons' sporting events.
Her husband, Edward J. McDade died April 11, 1981. A sister, Jane and brothers, William, John and Patrick Crawley also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Michael P., Edward J. and Patty McDade of Wilkes-Barre and Reenie and her husband Jim McGavin of Wilkes-Barre; grandsons, Jim McGavin and his fiancé, Erin Monka, Ryan and Chris McGavin.
Celebration of Mary Ellen’s Life will be held Friday at 9:30 AM from McLaughlin's Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Church of Saint Therese. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM
