Michael J. McGlynn, 66, of Provincial Tower in Wilkes-Barre died Tuesday at Hospice Community Care.
Born November 22, 1946 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Jerome D. and Helen Arms McGlynn.
A graduate of Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Mike attended the University of Pennsylvania and studied languages at Wilkes University where he earned his baccalaureate degree.
Mike taught Latin, French and Spanish in Catholic high schools of the Diocese of Scranton before setting his sights on journalism. In the early 1980s he joined the staff of The Citizens' Voice as a reporter. Mike later became a wire editor and wrote his own column for the newspaper for many years before retiring.
He was a member of the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima and communicant at the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
An infant sister, Helen preceded him in death.
He will be greatly missed by his son, Colin Michael McGlynn of Daytona, Florida; sister, Mary O'Karma Kovalchik and her husband Mark A. Kovalchik of Shavertown; nephew, James G. O’Karma, Jr. of Philadelphia; niece, Megan O’Karma of Philadelphia; a great-niece and –nephew; cousin, Jill Avila of Jupiter, Florida; other family and friends.
Celebration of Michael’s Life will be held Thursday at 8:30 AM from McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM.
