Mildred Shovlin, 84, daughter of Daniel and Mildred Shovlin, passed peacefully on June 23, 2012, surrounded by loved ones. Endearingly known as “Millie” by family and friends, was born on February 29, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre..
Millie was a graduate of Meyers High School and Wyoming Seminary School of Business. She was a lifelong resident and active community member of Wilkes-Barre. Millie’s professional career at First Eastern Bank (now part of PNC), afforded her the opportunity to serve both residents and local businesses for forty-three years. Her involvement with the community continued as a board member of the Industrial Development Authority of the City of Wilkes-Barre where she participated as a steward of the city’s economic development. Millie also proudly served as an officer of the Residents’ Council at Little Flower Manor where she resided for twenty-four years.
Mildred’s dynamic and engaging persona served as an inspiration to many. Openly embracing life’s challenges, the journey only made her stronger and more committed to making a difference in the lives of others. To know her, was to love her. Mildred treasured time spent with family and friends.
Millie wished to extend her heartfelt appreciation to her loving sister Jean and late brother-in-law, Jack Wasnick; to her devoted cousins Paul and Sue Shovlin; and, to her long time friend, Carolyn Fisher. Each of whom were constants in her life and brought her untold joy and peace.
