Nellie Sipple

Nellie M. Sipple, 92, passed away Saturday, April 3rd in Hospice Care of the VNA.

Born April 9, 1917 in Lee Park she was a daughter of the late John J. and Lucy Shields Fisher.

Nell attended Wilkes-Barre city schools and graduated from E.L. Meyers High School.

She was a homemaker for many years, and an accomplished seamstress working at several of Wilkes-Barre's clothing stores, including Blum Brothers and Lazarus.

Nellie raised her family in the Back Mountain area and resided at Dan Flood Tower in Kingston for the past twenty years. She was an avid pinochle player and member of the senior citizens clubs of Dan Flood Tower and Firwood United Methodist Church.

Her husband, George Stuart Sipple died in 1969. A brother, John J. Fisher also preceded her in death.

Surviving are her daughters, Susan and her husband Matthew Gillis of Springfield, Virginia and their sons, Brian of Fairfax, Virginia and Jason of Columbia, Maryland; and Carol Jean and her husband Daniel Francis of St. Charles, Illinois and their children, Jessica Francis Schaffer and Scott Francis.

Celebration of Nellie's Life will be held Tuesday with visitation beginning at 9 AM in the Church of Saint Ignatius Loyola followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Hanover Township.
