Olin W. Evans, Jr., 90, of Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in death on Saturday, July 11th, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Olin and Marion Evans. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou Evans; daughter: Bonnie; sons: Olin III and his wife Lori, and John; grandchildren: Kyle, Evan, Keri, Jena, Olin IV, Laura, John and Jake; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Gwendolyn, Madysen, Owen and Olin V.
Olin married his loving wife, Mary Lou on November 21, 1951. He would often retell the story of their first date to their high school prom. To his family, Olin was a loving father and grandfather. He took great pride in his family, spending as much time with his wife, children and extended family as possible.
Olin worked as a math teacher at Coughlin High School from 1957-1991. He was himself a graduate from Meyers High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Mansfield University, a Master of Science in Education from The Pennsylvania State University, and a Masters in Computer Science from The State University of New York at Buffalo.
Olin loved watching Penn State football on Saturdays, either in person at Beaver Stadium, or at home surrounded by his family. He was a member of various organizations in the community, including the Penn State Alumni Association, the Freemasons, and the Nuangola Pines Association. He was also a member of the Irem Temple Oriental Band for more than 50 years. He enjoyed many close friendships that spanned decades through those organizations.
A private viewing and discourse will be held for the family. The family would like to express appreciation to our many friends in the community for their kind words and prayers made in our behalf, and to the staff at Allied Services Meade Street for their expert care of Olin.
