Paul K. McDermott, 66, a resident of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home passed away on October 30, 2014 following a lengthy and courageous bout with cancer.
Born July 27, 1948 he was a son of the late Neil F. and Virginia Mundy McDermott, lifetime residents of South Wilkes-Barre.
A 1966 graduate of Meyers High School Paul earned his baccalaureate degree in Culinary Arts Management from Paul Smith's College at Seneca Lake, New York. An Army veteran of the Vietnam Era he honorably served our country for two years following graduation.
Paul was employed in managerial positions in several top New York restaurants before returning to Wilkes-Barre and residing at Harvey's Lake. After his father's death he lived with and cared for his mother. They enjoyed the winter months at his residence near Jensen Beach, Florida prior to his illness.
Brothers, Neil, Jr. and Bill McDermott preceded him in death.
He will be greatly missed by his sisters, Virginia McDermott Corcoran and her husband John of Bear Creek and Mary Jean McDermott of Plains; nephews, including Attorney John Paul Corcoran, Jr., Michael Corcoran, William and Christopher Rothenbecker; several nieces; cousins and friends.
The Corcoran family is grateful for the compassionate care and love extended to Paul and sends special thanks to the outstanding nurses and staff at the Veterans' Home. Paul's family will appreciate donations to Home Nursing Agency, 201 Chestnut Avenue, Altoona, PA 16603 in thanks for their excellent care after his cancer diagnosis.
Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held Thursday with visitation beginning at 10:15 AM in the Church of Saint Elizabeth on Route 115 in Bear Creek. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Reverend James Alco, a close friend of the family, at 11 AM. Interment in Saint Mary's Cemetery will be private.
