Raymond J. Horan, 87, a native of Wilkes-Barre and resident of Middlesex, New Jersey died Tuesday.
Born May 9, 1926 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Raymond J. and Mary Gorham Horan.
Ray was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he proudly served our country from 1943 to 1946.
Before retiring Ray worked for Johns-Manville Corporation in New Jersey for thirty-six years.
He was a member of the American Legion in Somerville, VFW in Manville and Moose Lodge in Bound Brook. Ray was a Plank Owner of DD703, the USS Wallace L. Lind who enjoyed attending their reunions and a member of the Tin Can Sailors.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, the former Mary Besancon; a daughter, Sharon Horan-Dumont and her husband Lance Dumont of Middlesex, New Jersey; a brother, Robert Horan of Clarks Green; a sister, Mary Claire Smith of Port Republic, Maryland; nieces and nephews, including Gale and her husband Kenny Figlerski of Laurel Run, other family and friends.
Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held Saturday at 10 AM at McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Friday from 4 to 7 PM and Saturday from 9 to 10 AM.
