Rebecca Ann Rushton

Rebecca Ann Gilroy Brown Rushton, 84, a longtime resident of the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre passed away peacefully on Friday, November 26, 2021.

Born May 4, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Philip and Mildred Bauers Gilroy.

Rebecca worked at Carter Footwear for many years. She later worked at a group home for adult mentally challenged women in Luzerne and Wilkes-Barre before retiring.

Rebecca was a simple woman with a big heart. Her greatest interest was to take care of and feed family and friends. Her love for her children and grandchildren was endless. Her goal in life was to always pass on her legacy.

Her husband, James F. Rushton, died on March 10, 1991. Her daughter, Rebecca Grohowski; sons, Joseph and John Brown; granddaughter, Elizabeth Brown; daughter-in-law, Donna Brown; and brothers, Philip and Patrick Gilroy, also preceded her in death.

Her daughters, Josephine Johnson Fox and her husband Kenneth of Hanover Township, and Gwen Pezzella and her husband William of Nanticoke; son-in-law, Stanley Grohowski of Wilkes-Barre; daughter-in-law, Christine Brown of Wilkes-Barre; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-greatgrandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family and friends will miss her very much.

Rebecca's family is thankful for the loving care shared with her by John Rosencrans, CRNP, and the staff of Birchwood Nursing Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

Celebration of Rebecca's Life begins Tuesday, November 30, 2021 with visitation from 5 to 7 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continues there on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 with gathering at 8:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.

Donations to Hospice of the Sacred Heart will honor Rebecca's memory.
