Rita Marie Rodgers, 74, of Hanover Township died Wednesday evening at her home.
Born March 9, 1943 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Cornelius G. and Rita Dougherty Rodgers.
A graduate of Saint Mary's High School, Rita had a long career as a billing specialist in health care for Summit Nursing Home, Leader West, Travelers Insurance and Health Now, and in the legal practice of Vinsko & Associates before retiring.
Rita was at her happiest while spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was always in charge of the potato salad for family functions. She loved her dogs, Yency and Shabazz and was an ardent Yankees fan.
Rita was a member of the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima and its Altar & Rosary Society.
A brother, Neal Rodgers, preceded her in death.
Rita will be greatly missed by her children, Erin Denise Evans of Hanover Township, Kelly Marie and her husband Daniel Austin of Harvey’s Lake, and George G. Evans, Jr. of Hanover Township; grandchildren, Adam, Jason and Victor Verdekal, Brittany Ann, Melissa, Danielle and Dan Austin; great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Adriana, Alivia, Carter, Liam, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Mikey, Aiden, Lucas and Cooper; sister and brother, Alice T. and Joseph D. Rodgers of Wilkes-Barre; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Celebration of Rita’s Life will begin Sunday with visitation from 3 to 5 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue there on Monday with gathering at 8:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Private interment will be in Saint Cecelia's Cemetery in Exeter.
