Rita H. Wambold, 91, formerly of Mountain Top and Kingston died Thursday at Saint Luke's Villa.
Born December 17, 1923 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Richard and Honora Haley Horn.
Rita was a 1941 graduate of Meyers High School.
During World War II she worked in the offices of AC & F in Berwick in support of the war effort.
A longtime resident of Mountain Top she was a former member of the Parish of Saint Jude.
Her husband, John Wambold died September 29, 1998. A sister, Mary McGinty and brother, Richard Horn also preceded her in death.
Rita will be greatly missed by her children, Anne Wambold of Mountain Top, Claire and her husband Philip Theis of Ephrata, John and his wife Melanie Wambold of New York City and Kristen Kanaske of Kingston; grandchildren, Elizabeth Nobile of Lancaster, Thaddeus Kanaske of Kingston and George and John Wambold of New York City; sisters, Catherine Collacott and Nancy T. McCormick of Wilkes-Barre; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Rita's entire family is grateful for the loving, compassionate care that the staff of Saint Luke's Villa and Hospice of the Sacred Heart shared with her.
Celebration of Rita’s Life will begin Sunday with visitation from 3 to 6 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continue Monday at 9 AM in the Chapel at Saint Luke's Villa, 80 East Northampton Street in Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the chapel. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery.
