Robert J. McLaughlin Jr., 66, of Scranton passed away following a recent illness on Friday, November 28, 2014 at the Riverside Rehabilitation Center in Taylor.
Born September 30, 1948 in Wilkes-Barre he was the son of the late Robert J. and Jean J. Gallagher McLaughlin. His family’s ties to Wilkes-Barre span seven generations.
Mr. McLaughlin was a graduate of Coughlin High School and attended the Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.
After graduation, Bobby became affiliated with M.J. McLaughlin Company, working with his father Robert J. McLaughlin and uncle, Michael J. McLaughlin, Jr. Following the death of his father, he and his cousin, Thomas V. McLaughlin, became the third generation to operate the funeral service established in 1898 by his grandfather, Michael J. McLaughlin. Over the past three decades his entrepreneurial spirit took him in many different directions during which time he was active in numerous business ventures.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Darcy Rogers McLaughlin of Scranton; sisters Jeanne McLaughlin Durkin of Dallas and Joan McLaughlin Smith and her husband Russ of Reading; as well as several nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
