Ronald R. ‘Rocket’ Rebo, 65, of Wilkes-Barre passed away unexpectedly on December 27, 2013.
Born March 9, 1948 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late John and Emily Lutinski Rebo.
A US Navy veteran of the Vietnam Era he proudly took part in the maiden voyage of the USS John F. Kennedy. He was honorably discharged in 1973 following six years of active and reserve service.
Ron played minor league baseball and was an avid softball player, most notably with the Heights softball league.
Rocket was the manager of the recreation department of the City of Wilkes-Barre where he was the main contributor to initiating the local youth hockey program. He later became a respected eighteen-year member of the Wilkes-Barre Police Department where he was a part of the city’s Emergency Services Unit.
Rocket was proud to be president to the Fraternal Order of Police, Wyoming Valley Lodge for approximately ten years. He was responsible for initiating and organizing local holiday events for children, sponsoring many local youth organizations and charity events such as Make-A-Wish and Fallen Officers fundraisers.
He will be remembered most for his huge heart, wonderful sense of humor, willingness to help anyone in need and his love of children, especially his grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Krista and her husband Nuncio Massara of Harrisburg and Erin and her husband Frank Pikul of Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Gianna and Nuncio Massara and Jaxon Pikul; brothers, Gerald and his wife Sandy Rebo of Drums and Wayne Rebo of Wilkes-Barre; sister, Diane Kurkutis of Wilkes-Barre; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held Monday at 8:30 AM from McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM.
