Rudite 'Rudy' Avotins

March 7, 1954 — January 13, 2024

Rudite Juta Avotins, Rudy, of Provincial Tower in Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

Born March 7, 1954 in New Jersey she was a daughter of the late Henry and Marianna Susters Avotins, natives of Latvia.

Rudy lived in West Orange, New Jersey, where she was a dietary aide at the Theresa Grotta Nursing Center for nearly forty years. She loved all of the people she worked with and the center residents. They loved her back, and many considered her to be family.

Rudy's love of nature led her to purchase a camper that she used to tour most New England states, with her parents in tow, through the years. After retiring, Rudy found a home in Brier Crest Woods in the Poconos, where she loved attending the community picnics.

In 2015, Rudy came to Wilkes-Barre to live in Provincial Tower. In 2016, she unfortunately started her battle with cancer. Unwilling to let this change her, Rudy remained true to her love of people, oldies music, and classic cars. She attended live concerts, especially doo-wop, and rarely missed a car show on Public Square.

Her sisters, Maruta Mitchell of Vienna, Virginia and Anita Avotins of Blakeslee; nieces, the pride of her life, Emileah, Erika, and Cindy; great-nieces, Abigail and Carolyn; other family and friends will miss her very much.

Celebration of Rudy's Life takes place Thursday, January 18, 2024, with visitation from 1 to 4 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.

Donations to American Latvian Association are preferred and will honor Rudy's memory: https://alausa.org/en/participate/donate-to-ala/
