Stephen J. Cook (Cookie), 69, a resident of Kingston, passed away following an illness at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital on Saturday, May 19, 2018.
He was the son of Ruth Cook and the late John Cook.
A gifted mechanic, as a young man Cookie worked in his father’s auto repair shop. He went on to serve his country as a diesel mechanic in the Naval construction battalion (Seabees) stationed in Mississippi and Vietnam.
Following his service in the Navy he was married to the former Maureen Mullen in 1971 in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Wilkes-Barre and together they raised two sons. They were longtime active members of Holy Trinity Lithuanian Church in Wilkes-Barre.
Cookie worked tirelessly on behalf of his family. He was employed for many years by the Wilkes-Barre Steam Heat Authority until its closure and later worked for Valley Power Equipment in Wilkes-Barre and Grand Rental Station in Dupont until the time of his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen, in 2010; sister, Susan Gilbert; brother-in-law, Robert Mullen; and sister-in-law, Judy Mullen.
Cookie will be greatly missed by his son, Stephen and daughter-in-law Lauralie; son, Dennis; his mother, Ruth Cook; granddaughter, Ali Cook; grandson, J. P. Cook; sisters, Beverly O’Brien and Linda Cook; sister-in-law, Ann and her husband Mark Breymeier; and nephew, Noah Breymeier.
Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held Friday with visitation beginning at 5 PM followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 6:30 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Cookie’s memory to the SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 East Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
