Thomas A. Caffrey, 70, of West River Street in Wilkes-Barre died Monday at Hospice Care of the VNA.
Born February 20, 1941 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Michael and Alice Nelligan Caffrey.
Tom attended St. Mary's High School in Wilkes-Barre and graduated from Oratory Prep in Summit, New Jersey. He continued his education at University of Delaware and King's College.
He proudly served with the Military Police stationed in Germany from November 1958 to February 1962.
Thomas was employed by DuPont Chemical Corporation in Wilmington, Delaware for several years and later worked for the State of Delaware in the Department of Labor and Department of Health and Human Services.
He was a former member of Big Brothers of Delaware, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. A long-time YMCA member, he was an avid basketball and racquetball player and dedicated lap swimmer.
Brothers, Michael and Gerard Caffrey preceded him in death.
Tom will be missed by his sisters, Mary Lohmann of Toms River, New Jersey and Alice Adelman of Wilmington, Delaware; nieces, nephews, his dog, Snoopy, and friends.
Celebration of Thomas’s Life will be held Sunday at 12:10 PM with a Memorial Mass in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 130 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.
