Thomas J. MacFarland Jr, 61, of Kingston, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025.
Born September 12, 1963, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Mary Louise Mulligan MacFarland.
Tommy grew up in Park Place, graduated from Bishop O'Reilly High School, and attended Kings College. He worked for Ingersoll Rand in Pennsylvania and briefly in Roanoke, Virginia. He specialized in various divisions of sales within construction and mining.
He was an avid tennis player, and if you paired up with Tom, you were guaranteed to win! He also loved golfing and enjoyed playing every chance he had. He was a Fox Hill Country Club member and played every course in the area. Tom also loved Glen Summit, his second home, where he spent many summers with his family and cousins, as he called it, "up the mountain."
He was a genuine, stubborn Irishman with a fantastic sense of humor. He loved Notre Dame football and the Minnesota Vikings. He loved Jimmy Buffet and a special margarita known as the "Jimarita." He loved horse racing and spending time at Marion Farms, where he would visit Uncle Bill and Aunt Eileen Mulligan. Tom may have been an only child, but he had more friends who were like family and all his cousins. That's one lucky guy!
Several years ago, when Tom was diagnosed with the rare autoimmune disease CIDP, it slowed him down but never stopped him from anything. He approached most obstacles with humor, sarcasm, and a smile. He lived life to the fullest, on his terms, in what we fondly called "Tommy Time."
Tom's entire family is grateful for the care provided by healthcare professionals at Allied Meade Street in Wilkes-Barre where he spent the last few weeks.
Celebration of Tom's Life begins Friday, January 24, 2025, with visitation from 5 to 8 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. It continues there on Saturday, January 25, 2025, with gathering beginning at 8:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Ignatius Loyola in Kingston. Burial will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
