William F. Denion of Wilkes-Barre died peacefully Monday, May 23rd 2011 in the care of Hospice Community Care at Mountain Top Senior Care.
He was born March 21, 1927 in Freeland he was a son of the late Cornelius and Cecilia Boyle Denion.
A 1944 graduate of Freeland High School, Bill enlisted in the Army and served with occupation troops in Japan after World War II. He earned his baccalaureate degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Penn State University.
Bill worked at The Tavern in State College in its earliest days and was the Food Service Manager at Wilkes University for decades before retiring.
Bill was a member of the Parish of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
His wife, Kathleen Brennan Denion died in 2006. A daughter, Sharon Boyle and sister, Patricia Mulhearn also preceded him in death.
Bill will be missed by his daughter, Sheila Denion of West Hartford, Connecticut and four sons, Gerard (Jerry) Denion, of Reston, Virginia, John Denion of Forty Fort, Robert Denion of Mountaintop and William A. Denion of Plains; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five brother and sisters, Mary Grace Jones of Hazleton, John Denion of Maitland, Florida, Cornelius (Corky) Denion of Upperco, Maryland, Margaret (Peggy) Vineis of Wayne, New Jersey and Joan Boyle of Wilmington, Delaware; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held Friday at 8:30 AM from McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will be in Saint Ann’s Cemetery in Freeland.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM.
