William R. Smith, 76, of Swoyersville, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the VA Community Living Center on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
Born April 18, 1946 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late William and Ruth Dumble Smith.
After graduating in 1964 from G.A.R. Memorial High School in Wilkes-Barre, Bill served our country as a Sergeant in the Air Force stationed in Viet Nam.
Upon completion of his military duty, he married Judith Evans of Wilkes-Barre. Together they had three children; Kimberle, Ryan, and Brent.
Bill worked for Bell Atlantic for many years before retiring from Verizon. He was a member of the Welsh Bethel Baptist Church in Wilkes-Barre.
After Judith's passing in 1994, Bill married Louise Hughes Morris of Wilkes-Barre in 2006.
His wife, Louise; children Kimberle of Wilkes-Barre, Ryan and his wife Sarah of Ardmore, and Brent and his wife Erica of Kingsport, Tennessee; step-daughter Deborah and her husband Michael McLaughlin of Roswell, Georgia; step-son David and his wife Kelly Morris of Wilkes-Barre; brother Neil and his wife Kathy; nephews Kevin and Kristopher; grandchildren Kiesha, Jahlil, Abdul, Rainey, Teagen, Aiden, Mackenzie, Meghan, and Lauren; other family and friends will miss him very much.
Celebration of Bill's Life takes place on Friday, December 9, 2022, with visitation beginning at 10 AM, and a prayer service at noon at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Burial with military honors in Oak Lawn Cemetery will follow.
Memorial donations to the Welsh Bethel Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society are preferred and will honor Bill's memory.
